Omar Boraie's diverse talents and his ardent belief in the American Dream are the basis for his success in real estate, international trade, and his other subsidiary businesses. A native of Egypt, Boraie and his wife, Madiha, immigrated to the United States in 1970. Having earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Egypt's Alexandria University, Boraie planned to complete graduate studies in research chemistry at Rutgers University.
Boraie's real estate career began on a part-time basis as a means to subsidize his way through school. However, his talent in real estate quickly became apparent. Boraie decided to temporarily put aside his interest in science, and in 1977 he established Boraie Realty after having worked with two other real estate agencies while obtaining his license.
Boraie believed that New Brunswick had the same potential for redevelopment as European cities he had seen rehabilitated during his travels as an undergraduate student. As a result, he established Boraie Realty with a vision of new Brunswick's eventual redevelopment in mind.
Today his firm, which has grown from three to 35 staff members, is the developer of the Albany Street Plaza, a retail-office complex in the heart of downtown New Brunswick. The 275,000 square-foot, eight-story building, which includes an enclosed mall and a three-level parking area, generates employment for 385 permanent office and retail workers. In addition to the Albany Street Plaza, Boraie Realty owns, managers, and has sold many residential and commercial properties throughout the county.
Although Boraie had put aside his chemistry career to enter the real estate field, he found an opportunity to apply his scientific expertise when he established American-Middle East Marketing in 1980. The firm operates as an export hospital supply business, distributing the products of several major health care manufacturers. Says Boraie, "We can furnish a hospital from A to Z".
Boraie's other businesses include a real estate management service, a travel agency, and a car wash in North Brunswick. Boraie Realty Company's Livingston Avenue headquarters is located in a beautiful 65-year-old, 13-room brick Tudor mansion that was converted into offices. As part of the firm's ongoing expansion, two additional branches will soon be opened in North Brunswick and Franklin Township.
Boraie's belief in the American Dream is centered in his dedication to Middlesex County and New Brunswick. He invested in the area while it was still struggling to reclaim its identity. The wisdom of that investment is evident in residential real estate that has tripled in value and the fact that New Brunswick has the highest rate of appreciation in Middlesex County. Those gains are bolstered by continuing commercial business development and a subsequent increased demand for office space.
Boraie's active interest in the area includes his membership in various professional civic organizations such as the Middlesex County Realty Association, Independent Fee appraisers, HIDA (a national health organization), IATA (a travel industry organization), the Elks-Club, the Rotary of New Brunswick, the Rutgers Medical School Advisory Board, and the New Brunswick Chamber of Commerce.
Says Boraie, "I work seven days a week, and I love it. Every day I say "God bless America. This is truly the land of opportunity."
